Lack of public utilities irk Ukhrul denizens

Lack of essential services has been making life more difficult for the public in the headquarters of Ukhrul which is also facing the brunt of unrelenting economic blockade and sporadic bandh.
In an interaction with this reporter, the Ukhrul denizens have expressed their utter displeasure and are peeved with scores of poor public utilities like mobile telephony, electricity, internet, streets, drainages and medical facilities in the town.
"The major concerns in Ukhrul town are erratic power supply, poor mobile connectivity and lack of medical facilities among others.
These matters need an attention at earliest time," said TKS president Yangmi Khapai.
He added that the common people are gripping with lots of hardships as their mundane activities are seriously affected due to lack of basic services.
For poor mobile and internet connectivity, the public has attributed to the limited power supply.
Ukhrul gets a scheduled six hours of power supply in a day.
However, the consumers are not pleased with the service providers.
The mobile telephony service operating in the Ukhrul town includes BSNL, Airtel, Aircel and Idea.
"Even during the load shedding hours, the only dependable service is BSNL.
What is wrong with others (service providers)," asked Nganingkhui, a youth activist.
The BRTF's road repairing work in Ukhrul town has also come under criticism from the public.
In fact, the road repairing has been delayed for over a year and is yet to see completion till date.
On the other hand, the TKS and TMNL have been highlighting the lack of medical facilities in the district.
However, the facilities in the district hospital are yet to see any improvisation.
The organisations have also urged for early completion of the centrally-sponsored 50-bedded hospital being constructed at Hundung's Naga Gate.
