Imphal, November 07 2011:
Submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur, Sadar Hills East Chiefs' Association, Manipur (SHECAM) has demanded reconsideration of the MoU signed between the state government and the SHDDC.
The memorandum signed by President of SHECAM Kaihao Hangshing asserted that the state government and SHDDC fail to understand that Sadar Hills is divided into two divisions, namely Sadar Hills East and West.
So, the term of agreement with SHDDC for creation of three sub-divisions namely Champhai, T Vaichong, Kangchup Geljang from Sadar Hills West as against one Sub-Division at Island and Lhungtin SDC circle itself is a humiliation of the highest order and step-motherly treatment of the people of Sadar Hills East.
In respect of geographical area and size of population, Sadar Hills east fulfils all the criteria for creation of two or more sub-divisions with SDC circles.
The Association is also unable to comply with agreement signed with SHDDC with regard to placing of sub-divisional headquarters at T Waichong instead of at Chalwa, at Kangchup Geljang instead of Kangchup and creation of Champhai sub-division which is uninhabited till date, the memorandum said.
Urging for review of terms of the MoU signed with SHDDC in public interest, the Association has demanded immediate creation of Lhungtin sub-division instead of SDC circle under Saikul sub-division, creation of SDC circle at Phawoibi under the proposed Island Sub-division, placing of sub-divisional headquarters at the existing SDC circle headquarters and implementation of these demands at the time of implementing the terms of the MoU signed with SHDDC.
