In what could be termed as a major heat up to the race and challenge to the Congress and the BJP for the two Lok Sabha seats of Manipur, the opposition parties in Manipur namely the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Manipur unit, the Manipur People's Party (MPP), the Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) and the National People's Party (NPF) Thursday formed an alliance under the banner of the Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) .
Announcing the formation of an alliance at the MPP's office in Imphal, Manipur, the Dr..LChandramani, president of MPP disclosed that the decision to formed MDA was adopted after a serious discussion of the leaders of the four parties during a meeting held at the NCP office at Imphal West district Wednesday.
Dr L Chandramani informed that the MDA, under its common minimum programme, was all set to launch campaign at various places of Manipur.
He also informed that the leaders for the MDA has not been appointed for the time being, however, that all the parties' head will function as the presidium member of the newly formed MDA.
The president of the NCP and former chief minister of Manipur, Radhabinod Koijam, also appealed the general public to support the MDA which has emerged for the future of the people of Manipur in the interest of the state.
Koijam, while terming the present government as the government of the contractors, also revealed that the formation of the alliance by the opposition was the first step towards betterment of the state.
He also held it unfortunate that the chief minister of Nagaland was on his way to support sitting Member of Parliament (MP), Mani Charanamei for the campaign in Manipur's Senapati district without the knowledge of Manipur government and asserted that the representatives of Manipur totally oppose, at the cost of their lives, when it comes to the disintegration of Manipur.
