With none of the candidates filing their nominations for election to the 15th Lok Sabha in outer Manipur constituency withdrawing their nominations, stage has been set for all the nine contenders, including two women candidates, to pit against each other in the coming election.
As no candidate had withdrawn their nominations on the date for withdrawal of the nominations today, the horses have been put before the cart for the run upto the 15th Lok Sabha in outer Manipur constituency.
The outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency will go to poll in the first phase on April 16 .
The candidates for the election in the constituency are serial-wise-Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Thangso Baite, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, T Loli Adanee, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate LB Sona, Rastriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate M Yamkhongam Haokip, Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJSP) candidate Thangkhangin Ngaihte, People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) candidate Mani Charenamei, Independent candidate Valley Rose Hungyo, Independent candidate Rose Mangshi Haokip and Independent candidate Lamlalmoi Gangte.
Apart from the party symbols of recognised national and regional parties, symbols have also been allotted to four Independent candidates including Mani Charenamei.
Mani Charenamei has been allotted the symbol of Table Lamp while Valley Rose has been allotted Kettle as her election symbol.
Rose Mangshi's election symbol is Candle while Lamlalmoi Gangte has been allotted Banana as his poll symbol.
The Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency comprises twenty assembly constituencies of the hills, seven assembly constituencies of Thoubal district, and the Jiribam assembly constituency.
A total of 17, 27,240 registered voters are there in the outer Manipur constituency.
District wise break-up of registered voters of the outer Manipur constituency is -Ukhrul district-1, 00,994, Senapati district-1, 44,383, Tamenglong district-78, 126, Churachandpur district-1, 75,696, Chandel district-91, 406, seven ACs of Thoubal district-1, 85,021, and Jiribam AC-26, 587 .
To ensure security for the coming election, additional Para-military forces have begun to reach Imphal.
The para-military personnel are expected to be posted at respective districts headquarters to assist the preparation for the poll.
