Family files habeas corpus on Suresh's disappearance

Imphal, February 28 2011:
Family members of Longjam Suresh, whose whereabouts remains untraced after being picked up by suspected army personnel, today filed a habeas corpus petition to the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench.
In the petition filed by Longjam Mangi of Top Siphai Mayai Leikai, the father of missing Suresh, he stated that his son was picked by suspected army personnel on the night of February 18 at 11.50 pm along with Chabungbam Manglem.
Manglem was freed on February 20 at Koirengei but his son's whereabouts are yet to be known, the father stated in the petition requesting the court to intervene by directing the Secretaries, Defence Ministry, Home Ministry, GOC, 57th Mtn Divn, IG AR (S), CO 12 MLI, State Home Commissioner and DGP to find out the missing person.
The father said that his son was taken away in front of him and he suspects the abductors to be personnel of 12 MLI.
Despite his strong insistence, the abductors refused to give any reply.
He saw Suresh being taken together with Manglem in a vehicle, he added.
