National Science Day observed

Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) observed National Science Day under the theme, 'Chemistry in our lives' at DM College of Science today.
Science and Technology Commissioner H Imocha Singh, who was the chief guest of the function, released a book, Vigyan na kari hairi, written by Kh Imotomba.
DM College of Science Principal Dr P Ranabir Singh MASTEC Executive Director Th Surendranath were the president and guest of honour of the function.
Speaking at the occasion, H Imocha said that the day was being observed in order to bring the students, science lovers and scientists in a common platform and exchange their knowledge and findings.
Human beings need science to protect themselves from natural disasters, diseases and other disturbances, he added.
Speaking on this year's theme, Th Surendranath said that human civilization would be moving backward without Chemistry.
Even water treatment is not possible without Chemistry, he added.
He said that the subject is needed in all aspects of life.
Socio Economic and Environment Development Organisation (SEEDO) in collaboration with SEEDO Innovators Science Club and SEEDO Science Club also observed the day at its office today.
Essay writing and painting competitions and lecture programme were the main highlights of the function, said a press release.
S Kula Women's College, Nambol celebrated International Year of Chemistry 2011 on the occasion of National Science Day today.
The programme was organised under the sponsorship of UGC.
A symposium competition on the topic, 'Chemistry in our lives' was conducted.
L Rajprabin of Naorem Birahari College and S Sandhyarani of S Kula Women's College got first and second positions respectively.
Kimkim Thoudam and M Monteshwori Devi of S Kula Women's College jointly got third position, said a press release.
