Sagar Prashad (14) of Sapermaina, whose kidnapping created a tension at Sapermaina, Kangpokpi and Motbung, has been freed after eight days in captivity.
With his release, the proposed Sardar hill 24-bandh has been called off.
A report quoting the boy said that his captors kept him blindfolded, hands and legs tied all the time in the eight days of captivity.
They abandoned him in Saikul area this early morning around 3.30 am.
After being freed, he had to untie his blindfold, hands and legs after his captors left the place telling him that he could go home.
He had no idea where he was set free, so he trekked blindly until he came across a road.
An old man who was on a morning walk showed him the road to Koubru Leikha.
When he reached the place after crossing the Imphal river, it was around 6.30 am and he reached home around 8.30 am, Sagar was quoted as saying.
In the custody of the captors he was provided food only once while on the other days, he had to be contend with fritters supplied by them.
Family members admitted him at a hospital in Imphal as his health had weakened.
On what condition he was released by his captors could not be ascertained for the time being.
However, Ngamlien Haokip, the convener of the JAC formed in connection with the kidnapping of Sagar thanked the kidnappers for releasing him unharmed and without payment of a
ransom.
