Even though handicraft products of Manipur has high demand outside the state, state government is still neglecting the artisans in the state, lamented MLA, Th Nandakishore speaking at opening function of the 10-day winter craft bazar at Yaiskul Athletic Ground, Imphal today.
The MLA graced the opening function of the craft bazar organised by the People's Educational for Awareness and Community Entrepreneur Organisation.
He said India government is encouraging artisans.
Artisans need to explore the beneficiary schemes of the government and improve their conditions.
"To order to spread state handicraft products throughout the globe, we should avail financial assistance from various schemes and projects from the DC (Handicraft), ministry of textile," he added.
Speaking as guest of honour of the function, assistant director T Roly Vareilim, MNSEC, Imphal observed that earlier, there were no markets for handicraft products of the state.
As such, handicraft products were used to sell in the market outside the state.
Artisans used to sell their products outside the state, but today, with the conduct of various handicrafts fairs, artisans has able to sell their products in the state too, he added.
In craft bazar which would continue for 10-day, a total of 160 stalls displaying handicraft products are taking part.
The craft bazar will be opened from 8 am till 7 pm everyday.
