Kakching Bazar wore a deserted look today on the first day of two day shutdown protest by the businessmen of the one of the biggest business centre in Thoubal district against "huge unbearable extortion" demands served by the undergrounds.
Shops, business centres and others including hotels in the Bazar area will remain closed for two days, that is today and tomorrow, demanding withdrawal of threats on them in connection with extortion demand by underground groups, according to the protesting Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Organisation.
An underground outfit is demanding payment of money in the form of annual tax.
They are exerting pressure on businessmen to pay money in the form of "annual tax" by every shop and other business establishments, protestors said.

Sources close to the protesting businessmen disclosed that a banned outfit has imposed "annual tax" and exerted strong pressure to pay the same at the earliest.
They are making monetary demand ranging from Rs 1500 to Rs 4000 from each and every shops and business establishments in the Bazar area which the outfit had fixed as par the size of the business of each shops.
Over, 120 shops and business establishments including hotels (eateries) and others dealing in different businesses, right from grocery items to hardware items and electronic items are running in the Kakching Bazar.
The closure of the Bazar meant cutting off livelihood of thousands of people who turn in the Bazar everyday.
The sit-in protest which commenced from around 10 am concluded at 4 pm for the day and the same will carry out tomorrow also.
