Every issue should be solved with non-violent means, said Chief Minister, O Ibobi as he joined the nation in paying tribute to India's first woman prime minister Indira Gandhi on her 93rd birth anniversary today.
Speaking in-Charge as chief guest in the function to make the day, Chief Minister O Ibobi recalled the sacrifice made by Indira Gandhi for national integration and called to take a pledge to safeguard the integrity of the nation by leaving behind all differences of religion, caste and creed.
"We should solve all issues ahead of us through dialogue and non-violent means," he said.
The Chief Minister led in offering tributes to Indira Gandhi held at the south block of the state secretariat, Imphal.
Deputy Speaker Th Lokeshwor, chief secretary DS Poonia and DGP Y Joykumar were among others who attended the function.
The first day of the week long observance function was marked by the Chief Minister administering an oath to strengthen the national integrity.
The second day will be observed as Welfare of Minorities day which will be followed by Linguistic Minority day.
The fourth day will be observed as The day for Weaker Sections, the fifth as Cultural Unity day, the sixth as Women's Day and the seventh and last day will be observed as Conservation Day.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) also observed the day with a function at Congress Bhavan, BT Road.
MPCC president Gaikhangam and Chief Minister, O Ibobi led the people in offering tributes to the former prime minister.
IFCD minister N Biren, Tribal Development minister DD Thaisii, Deputy Speaker Th Lokeshwor, government chief whip MLA T Mangibabu, MLAs Govindas Konthoujam, M Oken and Congress workers and officer bearers also took part in the Quami Akta observance function.
