Imphal, November 19 2010:
The Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) and the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) have banned the proposed North East Youth Festival 2011 scheduled to be held at Senapati on January 18 and 19 next year under the aegis of Youth Initiative Foundation (YIF).
A joint press statement issued by president of SDWA, Lolia and president of SDSA, A Pfokrehrii Khrasi said that the two bodies welcome such proposed mega event for the youths of the NE as stated by the convenor of YIF, Dominic Chawang.
However, SDSA and SDWA, in the general interest of the people of Senapati District, and protecting the decisions of the apex bodies, have decided not to allow such event to happen in the district.
The SDSA and the SDWA would state that, owing to public interest and failure on the part of the organizers to respect the apex social organizations on certain important commitments in the past, have decided not to allow any such event to be organised in Senapati District.
Moreover, at this crucial and critical juncture of the society, the said proposed event which is confusing in nature should not be allowed to further confuse and dilute the minds of the people, the press statement contended.
It further said that as responsible social bodies, the SDSA and the SDWA are concerned over such events of self interest, which lack credentials and social accountability cannot be tolerated and accommodated in a civil society.
To prove the point, the Senapati general public will be the best judge to comment on any social values created by such events in the past organized by some individuals.
Therefore, to avoid venue problems for the festival, the organizers (YIF) are hereby immediately asked to withdraw their decision to organize the event at Senapati District, the two Associations said adding that if the collective decision and request of the apex bodies are not respected positively, the organizers will be held responsible for any disciplinary action taken against them or persons involved.
