Imphal, September 29 2010:
MPP MLA O Joy has asserted that the ban on direct recruitment in all departments of the state government, except in the home department, has completed 14 year and suggested lifting of the ban considering the increasing number of unemployed educated youths in the state.
In the backdrop of increasing unemployment problems in the state, there is the need for government to lifting the ban.
O Joy was speaking as chief guest to the get-together function of teachers and students of Regional College, Lilong, a function which was held after a seven-year gap.
O Joy recalled that the ban on recruitment in government departments came into force in 1996.As a result of it, students, qualified in different trades have been deprived of government jobs.
Majority of them had lost job opportunities after their age limits had crossed.
The ban itself has made many educated people to create social problems by indulging in anti-social activities while earning their livelihood.
Keeping this in mind, government must review the ban on recruitment, he demanded.
He said the present day society is the kind of society based on knowledge.
Education has a big role in advancing this knowledge based society.
But for the state, both the society and education system are in an awful state.
High ranking officials in the state education department lack sincerity in discharging their duty.
This insincerity is apparent when they appoint cooks and attendants in schools where there were no teachers and school buildings.
They were transferring and posting teachers to these schools where there are no students.
In this regard, a separate law which will govern the education department is a must, he suggested.
While alleging flaws in the government rationalization policy in the education department, Joy said that many teachers were transferred and posted to schools without students or without school building by bribing because accepted bribes from these teachers who do not wish to attend and teach in schools.
Reacting to the recent publication of DPC result by Hueiyen Lanpao, he said that government conducted the DPC while the result was declared by the newspaper.
The get-together function graced by O Joy as chief guest was presided over by principal of the college S Trilokchand.
Secretary, governing body of the college, H Shyam and former secretary Y Pocha attended as guests of honour.
