Five time world women boxing champion MC Mary Kom and Dronacharya award winner and boxing coach Leishangthem Ibomcha were today awarded cash reward of Rs 50,000 each by Welkin Realtek Private Limited, a Delhi company.
The cash awards were handed over to them today in a function held at concluding part of the Second Global Wing Index Mega Seminar held at Shanker Talkies, Lamphel, organized jointly by the Welkin Realtek Private Limited and Singapore based Global Wing Index.
The award to Mary Kom was handed over by managing director, Welkin Realtek, Pravin Thora while Ibomch received the award from business advisor, Kishen and gave best wishes for their future.
Speaking on the occasion, Mary Kom expressed unhappiness with the controversy that surfaced in the recently conducted trial selection at Talkotora Stadium, New Delhi and said that as only one is to represent in the category for the Asian Games, she was selected by the officials.
As only one is to represent the game in this category, a competition was needed even bewteen two sisters.
If Sarita was selected she was to represent the country and the same case applies to her.
But "I was not happy that we were put together in the same category, Mary Kom said.
Boxing coach, L Ibomcha said that he was satisfied when many people extended co-operation and assistance to state's sportspersons who will participate in the forthcoming Asian and Olympic Games.
The encouragement received by the sportspersons from government, civil societies and individuals has increased the confidence of the sportspersons spuring them to win in international events.
His efforts in the last 30 years as boxing coach has borne fruit, he added.
