Imphal, February 23 2012:
The Joint Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), who was summoned to Delhi by Election Commission of India (ECI) after cancellation of the teleconferencing supposed to be held between the officials of ECI and the State Election Office on February 21, returned to Imphal today.
The Joint CEO reportedly returned after submitting a concise report to the ECI on the complaints of bogus voting filed by various political parties and candidates.
It is said that complaints of bogus voting in as many as 523 polling stations have been reviewed by a meeting of the full commission of ECI and the review process is still going on.
It was previously reported that re-poll in some of the polling stations would be announced by February 23 after the arrival of the three Special Observers of ECI.
As the Special Observers cancelled their visit to Imphal without assigning any reasons, as of now nothing could be ascertained on the matter of re-poll.
But considering the proximity of date of counting votes, there is much likelihood that ECI would come up with certain decisions regarding the current prevailing situation in the state.
If re-poll is to be conducted at all, ECI would announce its decision within a couple of days.
