Imphal, February 07:
Casting aspersions on the ongoing election process of the MPCC (I) partys organisational election and demanding a review of the whole process, around 70 workers of Singjamei Block Congress Committee staged a sit-in-protest in front of the Congress Bhawan gate here today.
Following the agitation, a new check post has been set up along the road leading to Congress Bhawan with security personnel keeping a strict vigil to pre-empt any untoward incident.
On the other hand, general secretary (administration) of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Vidyapati Senjam, who is also the Assistant Pradesh Returning Officer, has been allegedly threatened by some unidentified persons.
The ongoing election of the Block Congress Committee (BCC) was to be completed before January 20.But it could not be held as scheduled following difference of opinion between MLAs who got elected from other parties and later merged with the Congress and the party candidates who were defeated in the 8th Assembly election.
Sources from Congress Bhawan said that around 70 party workers of Singjamei Block Congress Committee staged a demonstration demanding a review of the whole election process right from selection of primary members of the Block Congress Committee.
The agitators who carried placards appeared suddenly in front of the Congress Bhawan gate and staged their demonstration throwing vehicular traffic along the road out of gear for quite sometime.
The demonstration continued for around one hour after which the agitators left.
As disclosed by a prominent Congress worker, one E Iboyaima was appointed as Block Returning Officer for conducting election of Singjamei BCC.
Iboyaima was appointed with the due approval of MPCC at the recommendation of District Congress Committee.
But as Iboyaima failed to appear twice in the election of DRO/BRO, the election of Singjamei BCC was conducted under the supervision of one S Ingobi who was appointed as Assistant Block Returning Officer as per the recommendation of DCC.
The Congress worker further disclosed that there have been instances in which Nabashyam and former Congress candidate Birla raised complaint to the Assistant returning Officer following groupism within Singjamei Block Congress Committee and attempt to win over the BRO.
Meanwhile, in connection with the BCC election, some unidentified persons allegedly came to the house of Vidyapati Senjam who is also the APRO on February 5 and threatened her.
It is suspected that the unidentified persons who issued threat to Vidyapati are the supporter of Nabashyam, the Congress worker said.
