After long years of neglect, JN Hospital at Porompat, one of the most important medial institutions in the State, is all set to get a face lift.
Health Minister L Nandakumar today paid his first official visit to the hospital and announced that Rs 2.20 crores would be spend on development and renovation of the hospital.
He told media persons that State Government is preparing a Master Plan for development of the Hospital with the help of a Central agency.
For implementation of the Master Plan, the State Govt would also be approaching DONER for assistance.
After taking a round of the hospital and inspecting the progress of the renovation works being taken up, the Health Minister gave instruction Addl Chief Engineer, PWD Tonsana Sharma for constructing a common kitchen and public toilet for the general patients who come for medical treatment at the hospital besides proper maintenance of the existing latrines in the hospital.
For effective functioning of the operation theatre, the Minister said the CT Scan Machine which has been out of order for some time would be repaired and a new one would be installed at an estimated cost of Rs 18 lakhs.
Arrangement would also be made for construction of a 100-bedded AID Hospital within the hospital complex, he added.
Taking serious note of poor quality of the tiles being used on the walls and floor of the hospital, the Minister gave strong instructed to the authorities concerned for using only ISI marked tiles for the purpose.
While admitting that the number of doctor specialists in State Health Service is very inadequate, the Minister said taking this fact into account rules have been modified to allow graduate doctors to study post graduation course without any difficulties.
In all 40 doctors applied for PG Course at RIMS this year.
Out of them, seven have been selected, he disclosed.
The Minister pointed out that there is the urgent need for appointing 90 regular doctors.
