The eight employees of Food Corporation of India (FCI) who were arrested on charges of deducting certain percentage of rice meant for mid-day meal scheme have been remanded to police custody till Friday.
The eight employees were produced before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate today and remanded to police custody till Friday.
Lamphel police have registered an FIR case on the matter against them under Section 403/424/120-B/121/121-A IPC and 17/21 UA (P) Amendment Ordinance, 2004.Case dossiers submitted by the police before the Court said that accused were arrested on Saturday evening at FCI Godown, Sangaiprou for deducting 10 percent of the rice quota under Mid-Day Meal scheme to be distributed by the Tamenglong district Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) and Chief Executive Officer among other districts for school children.
On the day of lifting the rice, 10 percent of the rice amounting to around 700 quintal were deducted at their respective sheds at the FCI godown, said police adding that the deducted rice have also been seized by the police.
During the course of investigation, the accused admitted that they have deducted 10 percent of the total quantity of the rice for giving to the underground organisations.
Having found the conspiracy between the underground agents and the FCI officials, the police report prayed before the court to remand them further in police custody till February 15 for effecting the arrest and establish the identities of underground organisations.
After hearing the submissions of the counsels on behalf of the accused an the prosecution, Chief Judicial Magistrate Padmeshore Singh pronounced remanding of the accused to police custody while maintaining that the prosecution should be given a chance to investigate the case properly.
The CJM further maintained that the accused should be medically examined in every 48 hours while in police custody.
