Imphal, November 08 2009:
The proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has conveyed congratulations to women boxers MC Mary kom and L Sarita Devi for their excellent performance at the recently concluded Asian Indoor Games held at Vietnam.
Recounting that Mary Kom clinch the 46 kg gold and Sarita secured silver medal in 54 kg class, an RPF statement issued today by its secretary (Publicity) T Leisemba said not only is the RPF immensely glad to hear the State pugilists frequently excel at international competitions but their exploits have led to global attention about Manipur.
Observing that sportpersons of Manipur have become the main source of attracting attention throughout the world, Leisemba also contended that owing to circumstantial compulsion Manipuri players have to represent India and wear indian colours at the international level.
However, it is heartening to note that efforts of sportsperson from Manipur is a clear demonstration to the world that Manipuris by birth are blessed with qualities of combative spirit, agility and talent.
Alleging that Indian sports officials have been adopting discriminatory policies to repeatedly demoralise players from Manipur that also reflects the Indian Government's agenda to subjugate manipuris, the RPF functionary expressed confidence no amount of repressive policy of the Government could dampen the spirit or distort the history of Manipur.
The Indian Govt fears that continuous excellence by manipuri sportspersons would certainly lead to the global fraternity tracing Manipur's history and will ultimately realise that Manipur was once a sovereign Nation, Leisemba further asserted that with global patronage it would not be a premature conclusion that Manipur will progress speedily in a such a pace that it will become difficult for Government of India to deny Manipur its due rights.
Encouraging the players to aim for more and higher glory, Leisemba also conceded that PLA combatants also feel extreme elation and relaxing upon hearing achievements of Manipuri sportspersons.
