Imphal, November 08 2009:
Fifty percent of the fund sanctioned for the development of villages through the Panchayats has been deducted by underground elements.
This not only is an impediment to developmental works but the threat posed by the undergrounds has compelled the concerned Pradhans to stay away from their homes'.
This was stated by Pradhan of Sangaiprou Mamang Gram Panchayat, G Brajabehari Sharma today while presiding a gram sabha meeting of the Sangaiprou Mamang GP under Naoriya Pakhanglakpa constituency today at the Community Hall of Konjeng Langpoklakpam Leikai.
G Brajabehari said the meeting was convened to thrash out the differences and misunderstandings between the Pradhans, members and public that cropped up due to communication gap.
He said, the pradhans have been living an unpredictable live against the backdrop of threats and intimidations from underground elements while the public were complaining mismanagement of funds.
He also pointed out that there are some publics who tried to seek information about the implementation of funds through the RTI.
This has caused the pradhans more inconveniences.
Appealing the underground to stop deducting money from the Panchayat funds, Brajabehari asserted that the rural areas will be developed within a span of five years if the fund meant for the development are utilised properly.
He said, when the public question about the implementation of funds, the Pradhans were left speechless, refusing to tell them the truth.
This has compelled the public to hold wrong impression against the pradhans.
He appealed the public to extend cooperation to the pradhans in the implementation of developmental projects.
