Two officials of the Union Home Ministry, secretary (internal security), VK Bansal and joint secretary (NE in-charge), Sambhu Singh arrived here today to represent the Centre in the two day tripartite talk with the United Naga Council (UNC) and Government of Manipur scheduled for tomorrow, December 3 .
The tripartite talk involving the Manipur government, United Naga Council (UNC) and Centre is to be held at Senapati district headquarters on Friday and Saturday.
Regarding the meeting, Chief Minister, O Ibobi convened a high level preparatory meeting late this evening.
The meeting in which the two MHA officials took part was attended by some cabinet ministers apart from the chief secretary and other top bureaucrats.
What transpired in the meeting could not be officially confirmed but a highly reliable source said that chief secretary DS Poonia will lead the state government in the tripartite talks.
State home commissioner, Vumlhunmang and DC, Senapati are also likely to take part in the talks.
Earlier, a statement issued by the publicity wing of the UNC had said that the Centre has responded with a proposal for tripartite talks with the state government, UNC and the Centre in response to a memorandum submitted to Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh on September 14 by the UNC.
In the memorandum, the UNC, mention may be made, had sought for intervention by the Centre with an alternative arrangement for the Nagas in the present State of Manipur after it had announced severing political ties with the state.
The talks are scheduled to start at 11 am at Senapati district headquarters.
The two officials of MHA arrived today by air.
They will stay till December 5, the source said.
