WITH A view to providing succor to the Mautam (bamboo flowering) hit people of Thanlon, Commanding Officer, 12 Madras under Red Shield Divsion inaugurated a water supply scheme and also five bathing and washingpoints for the villagers of Thanlon on Friday last.
A PIB (Defence Wing) statement said that it is a common knowledge that the backward villagers in the Thanlon sub-division are devoid of even the most basic amenities.
One of this is the facility of adequate water in their villages.
To overcome this problem 12 Madras under the aegis of of HQ 27 Sector Assam Rifles decided to construct community bathing and washing points at suitable places within the village with a syntax tank, water connection, privacy and proper drainage.
This would not only improve the hygiene conditions but also solve the problem of women going to far off places to fetch water.
The time saved can then be utilized for more productive work.
The women folk can now wash clothing even when it is raining or in bright sun as these washing points have a tin sheet roof besides preventing them from bathing in the open, the PIB (DW) statement said.
