AS PART of the series of programmes organised in connection with the Peace March of the Manipuri Diaspora under the banner of Manipur Levy-2008, the Centre for Myanmar Studies, Manipur University today organised an academic interaction at the Centenary Hall of the University, Canchipur in which the marchers took part.
Director of the Centre, Prof W Nabakumar was the moderator at the interaction programme.
President of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Manipur Pradesh and former Chief Minister, Radhabinod Koijam, who attended the programme as chief guest, said that only by unity of the people, could a region achieve freedom.
Unless and until we do away with the culture of two-ness prevailing in Manipur society, freedom or development can never be achieved.
Peace and tranquility and a developed society could be achieved only by unity,
he said.
MLA Radhabinod Koijam further said that in the oncoming tide of changes that is sweeping across the globe, if the Manipuri people do not properly look where they would be as the Look East policy of the Centre comes about, the Manipuris could get erased.
It is high time the Manipuri people tried to be self sufficient economically.
President of Manipur University Students' Union, Narayan appealed to all concerned and the people to be united.
Vice Chancellor of MU, Prof Ch Amuba said, the culture of two-ness in everything in Manipur make people of other places think that the Manipuris never think alike.
