Stepping up its counter-insurgency operation, Imphal West District Police have apprehended three underground activists belonging to different outfits over the last 24 hours.
According to a statement issued by SP of Imphal West Clay Khongsai, a PULF activist identified as Md Fazul Karim alias Ibungo alias Taj Khan (34) s/o Md Nahatomba alias Abdul Karim of Mayang Imphal Bengoon Maning Leikai was arrestedfrom Assembly Crossing at around 5.30 am today.
On preliminary interrogation, Md Fazul Karim disclosed that he joined the outfit in March 2006 through one Md Azizur of Mayang Imphal Yangbi and he was assigned to extort money from shopkeepers, business men and general public.
The SP informed that onee more PULF activist identified as Md Taher Ali alias Sotu (30) s/o Late Md Hafijuddin of Mayang Imphal Bengoon Maning Leikai from Lamlong Bazar at around 7 am today.
Md Taher Ali disclosed that he joined PULF in November 2006 through Md Azizur of Mayang Imphal Yangbi and now working at the Dimapur headquarters of the outfit.
The SP further informed that one active member of the RPF/PLA later identified as Lourembam Naochabi alias Thouba (30) s/o L Ibocha Singh of Chingamathak Nameirakpam who is a S/S sergeant under army no.1276 of the outfit was arrested during frisking and checking operation at Chingamakhong Traffic Point at around 7.15 pm yesterday.
On preliminary interrogation, the arrested member disclosed that he joined the outfit in August/September 1997 through one S/S sergeant Hemba Singh of Singjamei Ngakraba (now expired).
