Imphal, December 29 2009:
An earthquake of moderate magnitude measuring 5.6 ML with a focal depth of about 114 km rocked the entire State at around 2.31 pm today.
According to a statement issued by Department of Earth Sciences, Manipur University, epicentre of the tremor, lasting about 10 seconds, was located at 24.346 degree North /94.972 degree East near Ngaunggon of Myanmar, to the east of Chindwin river.
Today's was the fourth felt earthquake triggered in this area.
All the epicentres are falling in the Central-Burma-Mollase-Basin along the Chindwin river, added the statement signed by Dr Manichandra Sanoujam of the Seismological Observatory, Manipur University.
