Speaking at the function, Minister Ranjit said that there have been a lot of changes in Thongju A/C during the past few years.
The community hall being inaugurated today is also one of the changes.
These are all the outcome of electing the most deserving candidate, who is none other than Bijoy Koijam, by the people of the constituency, Ranjit said.
The Minister further said that retaining walls on both embankments of Khongman canal from Zone-I to Okram Chuthek in the constituency will be constructed soon at the cost of Rs 12 crore.
The fund has been already sanctioned by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) from the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR).
Minister Ranjit said, there will be no problem for improving road communication in the constituency.
All such works will be completed within the current term itself.
These are all the outcome of the sincere efforts of the MLA of the constituency, he said.
MLA Bijoy Koijam said that the population keep increasing, but the size of the land never increases.
Once people of the state used to have spacious courtyard (shumang) in front of their homes.
But today, there is no longer shumang.
Therefore, the need for community halls at every locality has become essential.
So far 21 community halls have been constructed in the constituency, and two are under construction at present, the Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board said.
He further said that looking after the community halls is the responsibility of the local people.
A committee needs to be formed to look into the maintenance of the community hall and charge a nominal fee for hiring out the hall in order to maintain a fund, he said.
