Imphal, May 26 2009:
Strongly reacting against the statement issued by Papao Haokip, chairman of a village and published in this paper on May 24, the Zeliangrong Youth Front, Nungba Zone has today claimed that Papao Haokip is the elder brother of the commander-in-chief of KNF (MC), German.
In a statement, the ZYF said that it is ridiculous that the KNF (MC) which has entered into a SoO agreement with the Government should appoint a stranger as the chairman of Nungleiban village to create animosity between two tribal communities of Manipur.
Papao's claim that he is the chairman of Nungleiban village is false since Kuki village is headed by a hereditary chief and not chairman, added ZYF.
The ZYF further said that Papao Haokip was right in stating that Nungleiban village (Apinjang Ganglon Pt IV) is a revenue village consisting of 56 households and added that there is also a primary school, PHSC and other Government establishment in Nungleiban village (Apinjang Ganglon Pt IV) .
The youth front further asserted that there is no ancestral land of the Kukis in and around Old Cachar road as claimed by Papao.
On the allegations that the villagers had invited the NSCN (IM) to guard the village, ZYF said that this was nothing but an attempt to hide the illegal activities of the KNF (MC) and added that the outfit has been terrorising the villagers of Nungleiban (Apinjang Ganglon Pt IV) .
The recent encounter between the cadres of KNF (MC) and 11 Assam Rifles on May 13 at Nungleiban is evidence of the public support, added ZYF.
The allegations of Papao Haokip are false and without any basis, it added.
