Denouncing the police claim that 47-year old Tongbram Jaidev Singh of Thanga Tongbram Leikai but residing at Games Village, Langol is the leader of three armed UG groups, local residents including students of schools and physically challenged persons staged a Wakat Meepham at Thanga Tongbram Leikai today.
Participating the protest demonstration held under the aegis of Thanga Wangma Students' Welfare Association, Thanga Tongbram Khoirom, the local residents called upon the police tore investigate into the charges levelled against a social activist like Jaidev thoroughly.
Association secretary T Jiten informed that police have charged Jaidev as the leader of three armed UG groups based at Keibul Lamjao, Ekok and Loktak respectively and that the vocational training being provided to physically challenged persons under the Ideal School at Thanga Khoirom Ching and Rural Educational and Social Economic Development Organisation is being carried out with funding from these UG groups.
When this charges were brought to the knowledge of Jaidev, he himself had gone to the Moirang Police Station to clarify the matter, Jiten informed, adding that some one and half months back, Bishnupur Police Commandos have also come to the house of Jaidev to collect information and demanded a detailed report on the funding of the vocational training being imparted to the physically challenged persons under Ideal School and Rural Educational and Socio Economic Development Organisation.
As a consequence of such baseless charges, Jaidev has not been able to live in peace, Jiten said, and urged the police to reinvestigate into the charges being levelled against Jaidev.
