North East Students' Organisation (NESO) will stage a sit-in-protest in Guwahati in connection with Monika issue on October 3.This was conveyed today by NESO assistant general secretary James Bond Mangang in a press conference held at AMSU headquarters.
James Bond said that the students' body had submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on August 22 demanding a CBI probe into the issue.
He further said that the students' body would also support its member organisation, Khasi Students Union (KSU) in their protest against Uranium mining in Meghalaya.
Mentioning the possible health hazards of Uranium mining to the villagers of nearby villages of the proposed site, James Bond informed the media that KSU had submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2006 in this regard.
But the Government has not given any positive response to the students' body, the assistant general secretary added.
On illegal migration of Bangladeshis, James Bond said that the problem is alarming in the States of Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya.
The issue is not that serious in Manipur, he informed and added that NESO would however launch campaigns to check illegal migration from the first week of October in the State as well.
