One-day awareness programme for farmers on implementation of System of Rice Intensification (SRI) and soil fertility and management at Lamdeng Community Hall, Lamdeng Awang Leikai today under the aegis of Agriculture department.
The programme was graced by MLA of Lamshang AC, W Brajabidhu, Director of Agriculture department, L Palendro, and Deputy Director (Planning) of Agriculture, G Shamu Kabui as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Giving the key-note address, Ph Rajendro, Deputy Director (Soil Chemist) of the Agriculture department said that the fertilizers have been overused.
The farmers did not know the results of the haphazard using of fertilizers.
He said, even as the use of fertilizer increase the production of rice, the loss suffered by the land should also be taken into consideration.
In order to ensure higher production without much fertilizers, farmers should try the System Rice Intnsification (SRI) scheme, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA W Brajabidhu said, in the absence of any regulation for the protection of open land in the state, such land has been encroached by all day by day.
Schools, residential houses and other buildings have come up at such open land.
He said that such land could have been used profitably in promoting green revolution.
In order to develop, larger agricultural productions should be ensured.
The products should not be wasted, W Brajabidhu said.
