Manipur Human Rights Commission has today asked the DGP to submit progress report of the alleged rape of a girl by one Laishram Romen (28) s/o of L Ibouchou Singh of KakwaNaoremLeikai.
The accused Romen has already been arrested by the police and is being remanded to the same custody.
The Commission had taken up the matter after receiving a report on the matter sent by the Imphal West dist Superintendent of Police.
In its report, the police said that on July 5, the victim from Imphal East district lodged a complaint with the Singjamei PS stating that she was raped by the accused on Jun 19 inside a restuarant.
Subsequently, Romen was arrested by the Singjamei Police and a case registered against him.
Having perused the police report, the rights panel headed by its chairperson Justice (Retd) WA Shishak asked the DGP to submit the progress report of the investigation within four weeks.
It also registered the matter as an MHRC case for inquiry under the relevant provisions of section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.
