The resignation, addressed to the Speaker was faxed to the Chief Minister at New Delhi.
Following the advice of the Chief Minister from New Delhi, Tribal Development Minister Ngamthang Haokip today approached the Deputy Speaker and asked him to give in his resignation papers.
On being approached by Ngamthang Haokip, Lala immediately got in touch with the Chief Minister and a little while later faxed his resignation letter addressed to the Speaker at Delhi.
Mention may be made here that the Deputy Speaker had earlier refused to put in his resignation papers, citing rules and procedures of the Assembly.
During the meeting of the SPF legislators yesterday, Lala had made it clear that he did not resign as the Speaker had submitted his resignation letter earlier.
Lala had .stressed that his refusal to resign should not be seen as a desperate attempt to cling on to his chair.
