In its effort to bring back Senjam Nongdrenkhomba, who duped scores of people on the pretext of giving jobs, the State police have apprised their Himachal Pradesh counterparts to hand him over.
In this regard the IO of Imphal police, who has taken up the case by registering an FIR case against the fraud, has sent an application urging the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Shimla to hand over Nongdrenkhomba to Manipur police, according to police sources.
The application was sent some days back and replies from the Shimla Court are awaited, disclosed the source adding that the State police would bring back the accused as and when the Court agrees.
Nongdrenkhomba s/o S Modhu of Taokhong was arrested by Shimla police in September 2003 while he was masquerading as a captain of the Indian Army.
Subsequently, he was remanded to police and later to judicial custody after an FIR (u/s 171, 419, 420, 648, 471 IPC) and Section 25, 54, 59 Arms Act and 6(d) Official Secrecy Act by Boileneguanj police station, Shimla West.
Following a custody warrant issued by the Additional CJM, Imphal, Nongdrenkhomba was brought to Imphal on June 17 and produced before the same Court.
Later, he was taken back to Shimla police custody.
On June 20, Imphal police station registered a fresh FIR against the fraud u/s 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 506/34 (criminal intimidation) IPC.
The FIR was registered on the basis of the complaint lodged by the people who were duped to the tune of around Rs 60 lakhs by the fraud promising them jobs at RIMS.
