Imphal, November 24:
The JAC Manipur (Hills) on Delimitation of Assembly Constituencies has appealed to the Chief Minister to reconsider the decision of all political parties to maintain status quo of assembly segments.
In a statement, the JAC observed that area-wise and population-wise consideration would provide ample justification of delimitation saying that in the valley an MLA represents 34,000 electorates and 55 sq kms while it is 48,000 electorates and 1004 sq kms in the hill districts.
It further opined that the democratic principle of equal participation and equal representation would be ensured only with the increase in ACs in the hill districts.
