Assam Rifles personnel arrested six activists of different UG groups including four RPF/PLA cadres till Nov 22, informed AR statements.
While the PLA/RPF cadres were picked up by 34 AR troopers from Tekcham and Yairipok area during search operations the PREPAK activists are informed to have been arrested from Langthabal Kunja area during similar exercise.
The PLA cadres picked up from Tekcham have been identified as Shanthim Ambumcha alias Abunga (23) s/o (L) Coman, Enao Singh (28) s/o (L) Indrajit and Tekcham Rajmohan Singh (32) s/o T Ibumcha Singh, it informed.
The fourth PLA man arrested from Yairipok on Nov19 morning is named as one s/s Pte Sanainanda s/o (L) Tombinao of Nongpok Sekmai.
Sanainanda is informed to have joined PLA in 2000 and completed basic military training at Sajik Tampak.
His army number is 2204, asserted the AR release while adding that all the arrested UGs have been handed over to police.
The PREPAK cadres arrested by 4 AR are identified as s/s L/Cpl Sanatomba Meitei (21) s/o Ibohal Singh and Pte Ramananda (31) s/o Sanjay - both from Langthabal Kunja.
Contending that both had confessed, during preliminary interrogation, to have been involved in extortion activities as well as their accomplices, the AR statement informed of both being handed over to the police.
As part of an exercise to check extortions by UG groups along NH-39 and NH-150 and planting of IEDs on the said routes, personnel of 4 AR, accompanied by Imphal East district police and BSF conducted search operations yesterday morning.
During the course of the operation, the security team intercepted a Maruti Van (AR01-A/7965) driven by one Rishang A shatsang of Tangkhul Avenue as vehicle documents could not be produced.
The same security party also recovered 5 kgs of ganja from a Chalou residence of Th Ibosana s/o Th Achao.
The vehicle along with the seized contraband item have been handed over to Heingang police station.
Meanwhile, a separate statement issued by the A R PRO informed of 22 Maratha Light Infantry troops posted at Patsoi of seizing 1000 litres of illicit country-made liquor from a jeep (MN01-A/5119) on Nov 23 at around 10 pm.
