Imphal, November 24: University was crushed to death by a passenger bus at near the MU Ist Gate today morning.

The deceased has been identified as one Akoijam Ranjana (24) daughter of Nabachandra of Chingamakha Maisnam Leikai Maibam Leirak.

Ranjana was riding on the back of the moped (MN1J/7714) driven by her friend - Laishram Bidyarani (23) of Chingamakha Ningthoujam Leikai, when the accident occurred at around 11 am.

Registration number of the passenger bus which rammed the Kinetic Honda from behind is MN1A/0415, according to police source.

According to eyewitness accounts, the bus first hit the two wheeler and ran over Ranjana who had fallen after being hit.

The 24 year old died on the spot as the heavy vehicle crushed her head portion.

Bidyarani, who suffered injuries at the hands, had been admitted to RIMS Hospital.

The bus is in the custody of Lilong police.

Condoling Ranjana�s demise, students observed one minute silence for the peaceful rest of the departed soul, said a MUSU release.

Stating that prevention steps would be enforced in between 1st Main and 2nd Gate, MUSU also asked vehicle operators to comply with speed regulation during peak hours.
