Members of the Anglo Kuki War Patriots Memorial Foundation has today appealed to the State Govt to declare March 17 as a State holiday to mark the beginning of the 1917 Anglo Kuki war.
The press conference which was organised by the Anglo Kuki War Patriots Memorial Foundation was attended by Prof (retd) Mohendro Singh, Manipur University Linguistic Dept HoD Ch Jasobanta Singh, Manipur State Archives Deputy Director K Sushila Devi and Anglo Kuki War Patriots Memorial Foundation president Th Gangte.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Mohendro said that the Anglo-Kuki war which was fought between the Kukis and the Britishers for three long years holds a very important place in the history of the Kukis and therefore the State Govt should declare the day as a State Holiday as a mark of respect to the martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice during the war.
