Imphal, May 15: An 18-year old youth has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen near the Khoriphaba Water Reservoir under Nambol Police Station last night.

The victim is identified as Naorem Bembem alias Suresh (18) s/o Santikumar of Nambol Maibam Chingmang.

He is said to be a habitual drug user.

There were fatal bullet wounds on his head.

The body was retrieved by the police this morning and handed over family members after post-mortem at RIMS mortuary.

On the other hand, a 60-year old who was admitted to Shija Hospital here on May 12 night with grievous injuries when the cycle he was driving was rammed by a Honda Activa at Nambol Chingmang succumbed last night.

The deceased is identified as one Karam Tonsana of Phoijing Makha Leikai.

The body has been handed over to the family members after a post-mortem.

KYKL men held: Three cadres of the KYKL have been reportedly apprehended during a joint operation conducted by personnel of 11 Garhwal Rifles, 2nd IRB and Manipur Police Commandos at Ngangkhalawai in Bishnupur district this morning.

The arrested KYKL cadres are identified as Thangjam Ravi alias Rocky (30) s/o (L) Th Nimai, Wangkheimayum Sanjoy alias Naocha s/o (L) W Shamungou, Thangjam Themba alias Ichancha (22) s/o (L) Th Boyai Singh.

All the arrested activists have been handed over to Moirang Police Station.

Meanwhile, Imphal East District police arrested a KYKL cadre during cordon and search operation at Pungdongbam village this morning at around 10.30, said police.

The arrested youth has been identified as Takhelchangbam Kenedy alias Somy (25 yrs) s/o T Iboyaima Singh of Lamphel Sanakeithel.

During preliminary interrogation, the youth disclosed that he joined KYKL in Feb 1998 through one (L) S/S Corporal Lancha alias Telheiba of Thangmeiband and under went training at Khoupum for two months under army No 3210.He also disclosed that that he is now working in the fighting group of the KYKL under the command of Lt Choaba of Kha Potshangbam and holds the rank of S/S L/Corporal.

According to another report, Imphal West commandos apprehended a hardcore UNLF cadre from Lamboikhongnangkhong this morning at around 8, said police.

The arrested youth has been identified as L/Corporal Moirangthem Manao Singh alias Panthungba (27) s/o (L) M Anganjao Singh of Lamdeng Mayai Leikai.
