The proscribed KYKL today paraded 19 college lecturers before newspersons charging them of leniency in discharging duties and inaction against candidates using unfair means in the ongoing BA/BSc/BCom First year examinations.
The lecturers, including many females, are posted at the Lilong Haoreibi College and Regional College, Chajing and were rounded up by members of the Operation New Kangleipak (ONK), said a spokesman of the outfit.
The spokesman also warned of punitive action against Manipur university officials found derelicting duties.
The lecturers of Lilong Haoreibi College pulled up for misconduct during the said examinations and paraded today have been identified as Md Majher Ali Shah (principal) Lilong, Th Rajendra Singh (botany) Langthabal, Dr Y Temba (mathmatics) Chingamakha, Ng Zefree Singh (geo) Singjamei Okram leikai, N Mohen Singh (philosophy) Singjamei Kshetri leikai Pebiya Pandit, Md Iliyas (geo) Yairipok, Md Narul Hussain (chemistry) Lilong haoreibi, S Seityabati Devi (English) Chajing and R Sultana (English) Lilong.
The Regional College lecturers held captive by the ONK include Sagolsem Tilakchand (principal) Langthabal Kunja, Abujam Romen Singh (economics) Langthabal Mantrikhong, Lourembam Chandrakumar Singh (maths) Haobam marak Lourembam Leikai, Wangkheimayum Budha Singh (Manipuri) Singjamei Thongam Leikai, Ningthoujam Memcha Devi (Eco) Chajing Awang Leikai, S Sorojini Devi (pol sc) Singjamei Chingamakhong Chongtham Leikai, M Basanta Singh (Man Dept) Lilong Bazar, A Radhetombi Devi (Education Dept) Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, O Loidang Devi (zoology) Langthabal Mantrikhong and Th Shanti Devi (Manipuri Dept) Kyamgei.
Talking to the newspersons at a Thoubal district area the KYKL spokesman regretted that ONK endeavour to emancipate education from corrupt elements is being frequently challenged by some irresponsible teachers who are not only misguiding the younger generation but are demoralising spirit of those teachers working with dedication.
ONK has enough resource and support to foil those corrupt teachers from converting educational institutions into commercial avenues and the students as commodities, said the spokesman who conveyed ONK's resolve to trace out corrupt elements in schools/colleges so as to prevent these individuals from destroying the society.
Detailing on the lecturers' haul-up, he said inspite of mass copying during the BA/BSc/BCom examinations on May 9 lecturers on duty at the Lilong Haoreibi and Regional colleges looked the other way and even allowed the candidates to scour reference notes inside the exam hall for which ONK considered such misconduct of the lecturers had to be made public.
The lecturers would have to pay penalty to the organisation, the spokesman asserted.
Asking the MU officials to ensure conduct of the ongoing examination in the right manner, the spokesman said those found guilty likely to face the same fate as the 19 lecturers could not be ruled out.
In order to provide an opportunity to the lecturers to rectify their conduct, inspite of the magnitude of their guilt, ONK had opted for milder punishment rather than forced voluntary retirement from service, he said while maintaining that if the leniency do not bring positive result the KYKL will not hesitate on taking more stringent action.
