The five-day long Science Meet, 2005 which began on May 11 concluded with a function at the main stadium complex, Khuman Lampak here today.
Member of Parliament (MP) Dr T Meinya Singh, Prof HNK Sarma of Department of Physics, Manipur University and Executive Director of MASTEC attended the closing function as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
The Science Meet was organised by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) in association with the leading science NGOs such as Science Teachers� Forum, Manipur (STFM) and Generation De New Image (GENIM) under the sponsorship of NCSTC, DST, Govt of India, New Delhi.
Activities such as spot painting, quiz, science model competition, science behind miracles, science drama, sky watching, puppet shows, face to face with distinguished scientists, science film show, declamation contest, IT shows, poster exhibition, book exhibition, best appreciation award competition, etc were featured during the five day long programme.
Thousands of students, teachers, science loving people and common men visited the Science Meet, 2005 daily and witnesses various activities.
Various competition in different disciplines were also organised during the meet and the winners are awarded prizes.
In declamation contest, Yaikhomba Chingangbam of Sainik School secured 1st position, Thoudam Rubina Devi of Manipur Public School, Koirengei secured 2nd position and Yengkhom Myartle Zest of Kanan Devi Memorial Senior Secondary School, Pangei secured 3rd position.
In the spot painting competition for Sub-Junior category, Nikita Laishram, T Surbala and Susi Yensenbam, all students of Maria Montessori School, Koirengei secured the top three position respectively.
In the Junior category of the same competition, Laishram Bigyananda Meetei of Free Progress Academy, Uyumpok, Thiyam Devjit Meitei of Oriental Art Guide Centre, Keibi Heikak Mapal and Waikhom Jackey of KM Blooming English School, Khangabok secured the 1st, the 2nd and the 3rd position respectively.
Whereas, in the Senior category, Ksh Johnson of Shantilata Memorial School, Paona Bazar won the first prize, Shagolsem Rojit of KM Blooming English School, Khangabok won the 2nd prize and Millan Maibam of Standard Robarth English School, Canchipur won the 3rd prize.
In the quiz competition, M Kiran and Ningthoujam Premananda Singh of DM College of Science won the 1st prize, Wangkhem Hemchandra and H Bankim Singh of Havard School, Ghari bagged the 2nd prize while S Ammo and S Biju of Manipur Public School, won the third prize.
In Science model competition, Lairenmayum Johnson of Sacred Heart School, Porompat won the 1st prize, Vengkat Naorem of Manipur Public School, Koirengei won the second prize and S Nonganleibi Chanu and S Nongleibi Chanu, both students of Imphal Morning High School were declared joint winner of the third prize.
