New Delhi, November 22 (MIC):
The All Political Party delegation led by Chief Minister O Ibobi called on the Chairman of the Delimitation Commission of India, Justice Kuldip at his office chamber yesterday and apprised him of the problems being faced by the State.
During an exhaustive discussion on the Commission's proposal for delimitation of Manipur Legislative Constituencies on the basis of the 2001 Census report, the delegation aired its view points that the sudden growth of population in some of the hill districts and certain areas in the valley is not acceptable and unrealistic.
The team urged the Chairman of the Commission not to effect the re-demarcation of the Assembly Constituencies on the basis of the 2001 Census report which was a factual error.
The meeting was held in a cordial and positive manner.
The delegation has also sought an appointment with the Prime Minister and it is expected to be granted soon.
It may be recalled that on June 24, 2003, a five member delegation led by the Chief Minister had also discussed the issue with the Chairman of the Delimitation Commission, Justice Kuldip.
