Rongmei Lu Phuam, the Rongmei Women Organisation) has convened a public cum condolence meeting on the brutal killing of four members of a family at Noney (Longmai) in Tamenglong district on November 19 at Tarung Community Hall, Imphal on November 23.In a statement released by the organisation maintained that the four innocent members of a family were killed by the troops of 38th AR posted at Longmai while they were running out of their house to take cover.
The deceased Mathiuchung Rongmei, Duanthanlung Rongmei (26 years) s/o Mathiuchung, Chunchamliu Rongmei (25 years) w/o Duathanlung and Baby Rajianlung (10 months) s/o Duanthanlung were all innocent villagers, claimed the statement.
While condemning the cruel murder in the strongest term, it further alleged that the Assam Rifles have been undertaking a pogrom to exterminate all racial and ethnic minorities of the North East.
It asserted that security forces empowered by the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958, have murdered and maimed numerous persons in Tamenglong district alone leaving aside other parts of the State, citing the incidents of Khumji Kaiba in which a handicapped person was murdered in cold blood at Nungleiband and many other incidents of extra judicial killing.
With individuals unable to protect their own lives, it's high time that we stand together and fight for the common cause to protect and safeguard our rights and lives, added the statement.
NSUC flays: The Naga Students' Union, Chandel has flayed the inaction and negligence of Chandel district by the State Govt.In a statement issued by the Union, it alleged that the Chandel district has been cut off completely from other parts of the State due the collapse of a bridge at Leva Sari village.
Despite repeated request for renovation of Pallel - Chandel road and bridges, the Government has been sleeping over the matter even though the Central Government had allotted a sum of Rs 24 crores under the additional central assistance for improvement of Chandel roads, it further lamented.
