Lamka, August 11:
The local media here today reported that a woman engaged with the District Hospital sold an abandoned new born baby for three thousand rupees on August 9.Upon enquiry, the incident has not only been confirmed by this correspondent, but the fact that such an episode have been repeated time and again involving some hospital workers could be exposed.
It may noted that an abandoned child will surely need some one to care and attend them, but what is most disturbing is the way those connected to the noble profession allegedly sold the baby in the open for a price.
This particular girl child according to an informed source, who refused to be named, was abandoned by her mother as she was conceived out of marriage by a man who had since passed away before the child's birth.
"The baby was delivered sometime this week and sold for Rs 3000 after two days," the source said, adding the mother was even treated even at the district hospital by her adopted parents.
It is most likely that the child may still be in the said hospital even at the time of filing this report.
Rumours of similar incidents have been doing the rounds for quite sometime now but unlike this recent case, previous ones were shrouded in mystery as the adopted parents went missing.
And many a time there have been reports child being abandoned or disposed and even in some cases the child was spotted only after a dog or some other animals dragged them off to the open.
In almost all the cases, the parents were non tribals and sometimes non-manipuri.
