The 8th Tangkhul literature proficiency award cum felicitation programme was held at Ukhrul Hr Sec School conference Hall at 11 am here today.
As a significant development, proficiency awards were conferred to the 6 top ranking scorers, three from class XII all from Sacred Heart Hr.
Sec.
School and other three class X students, one from KTL School and other two from St.
John Bosco.
The felicitationg function was the first time of its kind in the history of Tangkhul Literature Society (TLS) in particular and Tangkhul population in general.
Principal of Little Angel English School (LAES) Ms.Soso Shaiza was given an accolade and recognition for her tireless efforts and struggle to elevate the Tangkhul dialect to the status of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) which has introduced Tangkhul dialect upto class XI and XII in the CBSE syllabus from this year.
Ms.Shaiza in her speech said that it was indeed one of the greatest achievement on her lifetime adding that it took almost two years to accomplish
the task.
She said that she was finally contented and gratified at last.
She also thanked TKS, TLS and her assistant Mark Chiphang for giving and extending full support to all her endeavour.
She further maintained that Tangkhul dialect which has been introduced in CBSE syllabus happenned to be the first dialect amongst varied dialects from the North East region to share similar recognition as other major dialects of the country under CBSE.
"My dream of elevating mother tongue (Tangkhul dialect) which have a rich literature was finally realized when the Supreme Court recommend her proposition after going through the genuine project she submitted.
Now the process to introduce the dialect in the syllabus of JNU is on the card", she informed.
The programme was attended by Zonal Education Officer, Everest Luikham as chief guest, N.Luikham, IAS (retd), Victor Kaping, Jt.
Director (retd), Soso Shaiza as guests of honor.
Teachers, student leaders, intellectuals and students from various schools of Ukhrul were among the other participants.
