Imphal, July 24 2010:
Blood sample of as many as 108 patients have been tested for Japanese Encephalitis in the last seven days since the installation of the kits for testing the disease at the hospital of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) on July 19 last.
Only one of them was found positive of infection of Japanese Encephalitis, an official source said today adding 58 of the patients developing similar symptoms of the viral disease were discharged from the hospital after recovery.
Meanwhile, a highly reliable source said that the stock of kits have also been in the position of exhaustion due to testing of blood samples allegedly without proper diagnosis the kind of disease suffering by the patients by the doctors attending them.
An official source from the State Malaria Department said that out of 15 blood samples highly suspect of infection by the disease tested after careful diagnosis, one was found positive.
Blood sample of as many as 108 patients had so been tested in the last around one week since the testing facilities was made available at the JNIMS.
Out of them one found positive while 58 of them confirmed negative to the disease have been discharged from
the hospital.
On the other hand, blood sample of a child highly suspect of suffering from the Japanese Encephalitis brought up at Mother Care Children Hospital has been taken for testing today.
