The Kasom Khullen Youth Club/Centre has submitted a memorandum to the Agriculture Minister highlighting the spectre of famine looming over the village due to the drought like situation during the height of agricultural activities.
In the memorandum, the Club said that 90 pc of the population of the village depend on jhum farming for their livelihood and added that the crops have totally failed in the village due to the drought that hit the State this year.
Famine is a certainty due to the drought situation, said the memorandum and added that many families today face the prospect of starvation.
The memorandum urged the Minister to depute the officials concerned to the said village to get a first hand account of the situation and take up remedial steps.
The Club also appealed to the Agriculture Minister to take up necessary measures to provide relief to the affected villagers on time.
