The 14th foundation day of Chanura Lamjinglel Kangleipak (CLK) has been celebrated today with a clarion call to all the womenfolks not to conceal their inner strength any more and face the challenges of life fearlessly.
The foundation day function held at Kangla Hall with CLK president Ksh Phajaton, social worker Ksh Chaoba and former president of League of Fourth World People, Kangleipak T Thawailemba was attended by many student activists and leaders of civil societies.
In her presidential address, Phajaton said now is not the time for the womenfolks to conceal their inner strength but to exploit fearlessly to face the challenges of life.
She said the role and responsibility of Manipur womenfolks in society is very significant.
It is to the credit of Manipur women that they would represent the country at international sport arena and won gold medals.
Among those who spoke at the occasion, assistant secretary of DESAM M Radhamani said Manipuri women have been shouldering various responsibilities and contributing their mite in socio-economic development of the State since time immemorial.
Though the position of Manipuri women in society is better than their counterparts in other part of the country, it is disheartening that to note that their real potential has always been undermined by their malefolks, Radhamani observed.
UPF president Y Devadutta said the contribution being made by the Manipuri women could be studied under three headings, namely, economic , social and political activities.
He also called upon the people for unrelenting efforts toward scrapping of the draconian law like AFSPA which undermines human rights and dignity.
Hericoun vice president Rengang Chothe described Manipur women as the embodiment of culture, strength and will power.
So womenfolks should guard against the evil influence of westernisation and globalisation, he exhorted.
Though change is inevitable, it should not be against the cost of the genetic culture of its people, he opined.
Kanglamei president Leirik Leima observed that all the people, whether male or female, who have come out to work for the welfare of the society, should themselves set an example for the cause they are working for.
The words of a drunkard who shout slogans against the harmful effect of drug and alcoholism in society would not be listened by the people, she cited.
WACAK vice president Jano Begum emphasised on collective participation of all the people, without any discrimination on the ground of race, cast and creed for the development of Manipur.
