Imphal, March 21:
Reacting to the State Government's decision to institute a Judicial Inquiry to ascertain the veracity of the allegations of mass rape of Hmar girls by cadres of the UNLF and KCP at Lungtholien, the Hmar Students' Association (general headquarters) desired the direct involvement of National Human Rights Commission or National Commission for Women in the matter.
Acknowledging institution of the Judicial Inquiry headed by a retired judge of the Calcutta High Court, the students' body observed that non-inclusion of NHRC or NCW representatives would render the exercise futile and devoid of justice.
Further demanding the probe be headquartered at parbung sub-divisional headquarters instead of Imphal as proposed by the Government, HSA also maintained that the students' body and Hmar Women's Association be 'involved in all matters affecting the most vulnerable group the rape victims'.
