Imphal, January 18:
Taking serious note of the non-availability of city bus services in Greater Imphal areas culminating spending huge expenses by the public on rickshaw and taxi fares, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed before the High Court with a prayer to issue direction to the State authorities to provide city bus services to issue license to private parties for such operation.
The PIL was filed by three students of Imphal College and DM College led by one Manichandra Meitram of Kakwa Naorem Leikai.
The students, in their writ, lamented that they incur a huge amount in procuring fuel to go to their respective colleges owing to non-availability of city bus services in Greater Imphal areas.
Advocate S Jayanta, appearing on behalf of the petitioners said a representation had been submitted by the petitioners to the Commissioner Transport on March 1.2005 requesting him to either provide such services or to issue license to private party to operate the service.
The matter was heard today by a Division Bench of the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench led by Justice Amitava Roy and M BK Singh.
