But the new rules which will completely change the traffic movement in the town, if it came to be implemented strictly, is already facing opposition from certain quarters even before it took off.
In protest of the change of the Auto Rickshaw parking site and other rules, the Lamka Auto Rickshaw Owners Association suspended service today.
The drivers, after having a meeting at the Lamka Public Ground in the morning went down to the DC Office and submitted a memorandum to the DC today.
According to the new regulation, all Auto Rickshaws, which were parked at New Bazar, will shift to IB Road, on the north side of the Lamka Bus Parking.
The new rules, meant to decongest the town area stipulates that one-way traffic will be enforced at Tedim Road between the Police Station and Tedim Road/RC Road junction during peak hours.
It also said that no heavy trucks coming from Imphal side will be allowed to enter the town during 7 am to 10 am and 2 pm to 3:30 pm and they will halt at Peace Ground, Tuibuang during that time.
Those coming from Thanlon area via Tipaimukh Road will halt during the same period near Lamka Public Ground, Upper Lamka.
New parking sites for commercial vehicles coming from various directions are also made.
New routes for town buses and line buses are also laid down.
The police today cleared the various vendors on the road sides which gravely encroached on the roads and they are also seen on duty to enforce the new rules.
Traffic is also visibly lighter today with the introduction of the new system but there is confusion all around for the general public.
The new regulations also take note of large scale encroachments of roads by vendors, speeding by buses through the busy streets, vehicles carrying passengers beyond capacity and non observance of parking norms.
