Imphal, December 27 2008:
THE MANIPUR Mountaneering Institute (MMI), which was inaugurated by the first Mount Everest conquerer of the World Tenjing Norge on December 27, 1985 has observed its 23rd foundaton day at Lamdan today.
The function was organised by Manipur Mountaneering and Trekking Association (MMTA).
Director, Commerce ad Industries Dhiraj Yumnam graced the function as chief guest.
Former president of MMTA Yambem Laba presided over the function.
Thaitoungam Maringmei Khullakpa of Lamdan village, Vice President Manipur Olympic Association Dr S Joykumar also participated the function as guests of honour.
As part of the function, participants paid homage to legendary Tenjing Norge by offering floral tribute to his image and by standing quiet for a minute.
MMTA expressed their gratitudes to the villagers of Lamdan for their kind cooperation in developing the institution since the inauguration.
MMTA also honoured the villagers of Lamdan with simple gifts.
In his speech, Dhiraj Yumnam said that the development of MMI is the result of MMTA's hard work.
He also mentioned that MMI is taking a major role in building character of the pillar of the future by giving them training in adventure sports.
A prize distribution ceremony of the 61st Adventure Course held at Lamdan from December 10 to 25 was also held today.
